Ha-10x10min Binx2.
RGB-6x5min Binx2.

Thanks, John.

Nicely done John, I have never seen it imaged with so many H2 regions in it.

Nicely done John. I always have difficulty finding guide stars with this thing. You've inspired me to have another go at the earliest opportunity.

Cheers

Steve

Good work John - I like the red Ha areas.
I'd like to see the blue increased a little.

Very nice close-up. The Ha blend really sticks out. How do they figure out it's a barred spiral when it's nearly side on?

Very nice indeed John!!

This one is already on my to-do list after I've finished getting some more data on NGC7424. By the way things are going it should be 2024 before I have enough data from my backyard on that dim sucker to start imaging NGC55!

Once again, a terrific image...

John

I was casting around for my next target. This provides plenty of inspiration. The Ha really adds texture and interest to this galaxy

Yes 7424 is a pain as it barely shows up on my preview and needs a minimum of 5hrs luminance and will be eventually dragged out kicking and screaming.

Yes I agree its needs to balance the red Ha, for some reason it seemed to get washed out a little.

John.

Nearly perfect image. I would however reduce the background brightness a little by using a medium contrast in curves. It will give it that extra punch. On mu target list once the RC12 is up and running in the new observatory.

Hi John,
I hope you don't mind - I had a go with your image.
I changed the mode to LAB colour & increased the blue
& also did a mask to sharpen the brighter areas plus
I adjusted the curves.
What do you think?

Well that has certainly lifted things, my processing tends to be more conservative but your version has lifted the blue colour in the galaxy nicely which it really needed. The background is noisier but you are dealing with a compressed jpeg.

John.

Thanks John,
I suppose there are 1000 different ways you could process an image.

The LAB colour allows a boost of all colours which I did but yes
the background came out with some colour noise & was a little green.
A re-process starting from 32 bit FITS files taken straight off the stacks
would lift this image.

cheers
Allan

Hi John

Hmm? I have looked at this a few times and was thinking you might post a repro actually, before I passed comment. If I can be honest, to me the galaxy looks basically red and white the excellent resolution is at your usual standard though, so, if you could get some colour variation back in, it would be a fabulous rendition of this galaxy

Mike

Thanks for suggestions, the image was clearly weak in colour, I distracted myself with the Ha addition.

I was out gathering more colour Ha data 'unbinned' just to help the colour and Ha inbetween the breeze, Moon and the mirror misting, which I have been processing.

The first process was too quickly done and binning the colour and Ha was probably a mistake. I really should have collected lots of blue same amount as luminance - unbinned! The Ha came out well even though it was binned possibly because it just provides colour not detail.

This is a big splendid galaxy which needs plenty of colour time.

Thanks, John.

fine image John. the Ha adds a lot. All of the galaxies seem to need a fair bit of time at high resolution. Regards Ray
