At Astrophest I had taken some quick images with my new Olympus OM-D EM5 and 75mm f1.8 lens primarily to see how the camera and lens would work. I managed to get 6x3min images of the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex with the lens wide open. Plesantly the lens showed very little CA absolutely wide open which was one parameter I wanted to test. Also stars were sharp to the corners - another parameter tested.
I was surprised that when it came to stacking, DeepSkyStacker was able to recognise and debayer the Olympus ORF RAW frames and stack them. However this was pretty cluncky as the stars were transformed into large blobs of pixels so I thought that I would give it a go in PixInsight. I was pleased that this program was able to recognise and align and integrate the OLY RAW frames very easily and so I processd the whole frame in PI.
The image posted is uncropped of the cloud complex and just levels and curves adjusted.
The colour rendition from the lens and detail is actually very good and I was pleased with the first results, so much so that I went out and bought an Ioptron SkyTracker for further tests.
Comments welcomed, Allan.
