Having a Whale of a Time

Whale watching cruise yesterday of Port Macquarie. Ocean conditions were, to say the least, not good. Very big waves and swell with very windy conditions. Apparently makes the whale perform more. After 1/2 trip out around 9 kms we were excited to find two whales continually breaching. We could see another 20 or so doing the same out further. After watching for a while the dolphins decided to join them. This image was taken with the camera pointed into the direction of them and firing numerous shots. It was so rough out there we had to hold handles whilst even sitting.

Anyway hope you like the results.
Andrew

Hi Andrew.
Top Shot!! Well timed. Others in foreground add a lot to this image.
I suppose you are happy you moved to Port so you get close to this wildlife..
Keep up the good work.

Ripper shot! Equal to anything else I have seen on this subject. You have to be happy with that, thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Peter and Trevor.

I am very impressed with the image and you spend all your life taking images and only a hand full you are truly happy with. This is one of them. To capture not only a breaching whale but dolphins jumping out as well was just magic. Something I will never get again.

Hi Andrew,

Fabulous shot!

They're so intelligent it wouldn't surprise me that it knew it was on show.

Nikon D300s with Sigma 70 to 200mm.

If it a rough day though, it is hard work shooting with something so big. I hope you enjoy it and I hope they do play for you. It is an awesome site and with around 20 whales doing the same is was a spectacle to behold.
