EBay seller beware

There is a seller on eBay that appears to take your money and runs. Yes I know there are a lot of them on eBay.

I have bought from this guy on a few occassions with no problem but I recently made a purchase from him/her recent feedback says 2097 negative to him/her. I have contacted the seller on numerous occassions with no luck. I have contacted eBay but outside the period.

Not sure if I can name and shame him/her on this forum.

I think you'll have to - there's no way we can guess the identity of the dodgy seller from the millions of contenders.

Hi,

Yes, you have to know the eBay periods and sequences for a dispute. If you stick to that and use Paypal connected to a credit card it seems to be that you are reasonably well protected as an eBay buyer. I have had only minor difficulties so far luckily.

Always use PayPal, communicate solely via the eBay message interface so there's a trail and you won't have any issues with anybody. They'll always reverse a dodgy transaction so you're covered. The minute you liaise via direct email out of the normal channels or use other means of payment you're on your own unfortunately.

It's amazing after 26 days of sending emails and waiting for replies with no luck. I mention the problem to eBay, although eBay said they couldn't help because of time limit, I got a reply from Kangdigital offering a refund.

I had something similar ...

Guy says he posts worldwide, but only gives domestic US postage. I enquire by e-mail, he quotes postage to Aus and says it's no problem, he just likes to sort these things out on a case by case basis. I buy, but can't complete checkout becuase he hasn't added Aus as a valid destination. Then the fun begins. I request, multiple times, that he send me an invoice with the Aus postage (as quoted, of course). No reply over many days. Then I get a reply with a very large postal figure and simultaneously, an unpaid item claim with 7 days to "pay up or else" including risking having my account closed. That's extortion, thinks I. I contact him several more times, but no reply. So I file a complaint to eBay, and include all my message references. I wasn't expecting anything, but they replied promptly with an offer to delete the unpaid item strike (should it occur) and that they'll investigate the seller. Oddly, within 12 hours of eBay's reply, the seller responds out of the blue with a "sorry about that, I'll only charge the quoted postage and I'll refund any overcharge", which he did. I figure eBay must have contacted him to prompt the change of heart.

So, that's the story. And the moral? Maybe complaining to eBay actually works, but make sure you have all the evidence lined up, and only use PayPal.

Charges by PayPal and eBay are a little over the top though
I have just sold a large item $5000 on eBay. Between eBay and PayPal I got 4600 out of it the rest went in charges.

I here you Adrian... I make my living on E-bay and have for the past 14 years. The fees have got over the top, as well as postal charges. When I look at my end of year figures it does my head in. My total Ebay charges are huge... 18 moths ago you were charged 2.5% on values under $500. Now it's 10%. When you are dealing on a world stage it is difficult to add thes charges into your items and stay competitive..

Doesn't always work out quite like that!

I sold an item to Rudy Ong 'hifilovers' from Southport and sent it to him with Aust Post tracking, Aust post confirmed it was delivered to him 2 days later.
He then filed a claim with Paypal that he had not received it and paypal debited the item cost and postage from my account very soon afterwards. The thieving mongrel got the item and then his money back!

I have closed my ebay account and now just give things to charity instead.

I recall a few yrs back I enquired about a motorbike on ebay. The bike was supposedly in Italy. We communicated through ebay msgs & then direct through the sellers hotmail acc. Both the ebay acc & the hotmail acc were the same name.
I knew it was a scam, but I thought I play with them.
I dragged them along for a few days & then I asked for the address of the bike in Italy.
The seller said it was in (some place can't recall). I looked up the place on the map & chose a town nearby. I asked for the exact address.
The seller very quickly asked WHY ??? I said that I have a friend in (town close by) and he will come to inspect it.

Within 5 minutes I received an email from the "real" account owner saying that both their ebay acc & their Hotmail acc had been hacked by scammers.

Surprise surprise... !!!!
