Egyptians wearing meteorites

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/201...from-meteorite

Interesting article I saw today. Wonder if they were a witness to a great event or the pieces were just found on the ground and used as jewelry.

I also liked the show "meteor men" who travelled round the world collecting meteorites. They even came here to OZ and found a couple of meteors in the N.T. and across the Nullabour. Should really have taken more notice of the other rocks while out mustering. Silly me I was to busy looking for gold.

If you find any in WA, don't tell anyone, or throw it over the border All meteorites found in WA belong to the Government, or should I really say to the people of Western Australia

Hi Simmo,

Thanks for the link.

When the incredible Tutankhamun exhibition was in Melbourne in 2011, it included
jewelery that came from a meteorite.

I would guess out in the desert that meteorite fragments would immediately
strike a regular desert dweller as something geologically unusual and rare.

A famous example is the Iron Man Buddhist statue made from a rare ataxite meteorite.

The statue has a Buddhist swastika, and was ironically discovered by a Nazi Germany archaeological expedition to Tibet in 1938-39.

Regards

Steven
