Greetings from a newby here who's just bought a second hand CPC-925 and renewing a hobby after a 20 year hiatus.
Reading this forum, I thought I'd share that in 2010, I was lucky enough to be one of the pilots of a pretty special charter flight. We were chartered by an American Travel agency and his NASA-employed counterpart to chase the total solar eclipse across the Pacific.
Our brief was to fly at 90 degrees to the incoming shadow, turn just before it overtook us, then fly along the length of its track as fast as possible before its exit. It took a lot of organising working out the turning points, time and radii of turns at 37000 feet for a variety of winds on the day as we had to be at an exact spot at an exact time. No second chances with this baby.
To cut a long story short, we departed from Tahiti, headed halfway to Easter Island, had 9 minutes and 23 seconds of totality then returned to Tahiti - a seven hour flight all up. There were a few pretty happy people on board that flight....
Here's one view of the receding shadow as it finally overtook us.
