More Light Pollution for Central Coast

Those living on the western side of Lake Macquarie would be aware it is one of the less light polluted areas of the coast between Sydney and Newcastle, and this is backed up by the Google Light Pollution map. Sadly this look like this area is going to suffer the burden of a new 24 hour 7 day a week Twin Servo complex on the F3 at Cooranbong. After some years of fighting the development, it has apparently been approved:

As we all know, these Freeway Service Complexes bring with them large paved truck stop areas, fuel outlet signage and lighting, fast food outlet signage and general parking and amenities sodium or mercury vapour area lighting. This is going to be a major addition to light pollution in this area. Sadly, it looks like there is no futher steps that can be taken to fight this development. Michael Chamberlan (yes the same one) did lead the fight against this for a long time.

This development will stand out as a beacon when viewed from the Wattagan's lookouts.

Time to get your narrowpass and UHC filters, or move west over the ranges.
