Where to get encoders

I am looking for the best/ economical source for 4000/ 5000 tics optical encoders compatible with SkyCommander/ ArgoNavis. I am looking for encoders and if possible cable only. I do not need mounting hardware, I will fix that part of the project myself.
Plan is to equip a 12" GSO and later a home build paralactic mount with one set each.
Anyone out there with recent ecperience?
I will drive it with Nexus and Sky Safari Plus.

Old printers, found thrown away on grass in suburbs are good source of all kind of parts, useful for ATM-ers

You can get the encoders, & if you like just the cables, from Wildcard Innovations who make the Argo Navis:

http://www.wildcard-innovations.com.au/

eBay sometimes has encoders listed.

I think you can buy them direct from US digital
http://www.usdigital.com/products/encoders

edit: see this thread on how to use encoders from deskjet printers

Talk to Gary at Wildcard re encoders. I found with my 12" 10k ones were much better accuracy wise than 4k ones.
Also if you upgrade to a larger scope they will give you future proofing.

Talk to Gary , those 10 k encoders aren't that pricey.

Its certainly not that hard to come up with a diy mounting solution for the encoders , and if you want to make it movable probably not a bad idea to design something from the start that fits in with later plans .

I did mine myself , I was gifted an az bolt fit that the encoders sleeve into though , which imo is even if you buy it an easy fix for that axis.

Drop me a pm If you can use a cable to suit a an AN and I'll see if I can find it , and the serial adapter thingy to , I d be happy to pass it on for free as Its just clutter atm

cheers graham

Are you urgently looking for a couple. I have a couple of encoders 10000 ticks from US Digital, one of them is an inclinometer that doesn't require mounting in the traditional sense. The main reason is they are packed away somewhere and may take a bit to find them. I hardly used them as i was considering a DOB Bartel Mod, now I have decided a different direction and I don't need them.

I don't know how long it will take to locate them that is all.
