My first ever Horsehead

well if you use averted vision and a bit of imagination you can see the horsehead.


i think i was way too light in terms of total exposure time-this is one tough object

details:
camera: canon 300 d @ ISO 800
scope:C8 N , unguided

11 x 20 sec frames stacked in photoshop
heaps of processing-probably shows (had a big colour gradient problem to deal with)

location:
my backyard (ie far from dark site)
no filter was used

anyway at least the flame is recognisable, and it is only my second go with the Canon /C8 N....

next time go for longer exposure..may be try manual guiding?

any suggestions or comments welcome

Nice one seeker. As you found out, it's a very difficult object to find visually, but photographically is a lot easier. Persistence pays eh!
One of our members managed to get that b***** star out of the frame, and got a great shot. L.

Well done Seeker, it is a very difficult object, and one which is driving me nuts. I am going to get it, but man it is tricky.

Nice shot Seeker, I can easily see the HH and I think that you have captured the flame really well. Pretty good for nearly 4mins. Must give this a shot myslef. Colours look very good. Keep them coming.

Yep, it's ther alright... Horsehead is a real tough one. You need a good dark sky, good tracking, & long-ish exposures to catch it. Dark sky is a must. I have tried with my light polluted town sky & it's hopeless.. Have got it once at a dark sky, but the image wasn't that flash.
