Annular Eclipse - Sunrise on the Jigalong Mission Road

Here are some shots from the recent annular eclipse.

Location was a small hill around 10km down the Jigalong Mission Road, about 105km south of Newman.

All taken with a 5DMk3 using the Canon 400mm/5.6L with 1.4TC mounted on a RRS tripod with BH-55 ballhead.

1st shot 1/350th f/8 ISO 100 no filter - environmental portrait at sunrise

2nd shot 1/3000th f/8 ISO 100 no filter - point of maximum anularity

3rd shot Thousand Oaks Optical black polymer filter - partial solar eclipse

All just processed through lightroom with no other mods apart from a border, sig and final levels adjustment in Photoshop.

(The first one shows some pretty gnarly JPEG compression artifact in the web version!)

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob
Great pics - I like the atmospheric disturbance, clouds and trees in image 1!

Thanks for the comments.

#3 is not nearly as good as some of the other solar images around here (which are amazing, btw).

#1 and #2 - 'f8 and be there', as they say.

Here's the ABC News item on our adventure over in the Pilbara with some earlier, slightly less pretty eclipse photos:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-1...396?section=wa

Was good to catch up with Xavier Jubier and some other full-on eclipse crew while we were there.

I am now in some French documentary pretending to excitedly point at an eclipse (whilst standing at the Capricorn roadhouse a few hours after it was all over!)

See you all in Indonesia?

Friday's eclipse

We were just down the road to the south with the AGWA (Astronomy Group of WA) group and the Jiggalong Road was second viewing point option for us. Glad we didn't need it as it sounds as if it might have been a little crowded!
