will an eq1 tripod fit an eq2 mount

hi peeps,

I need to replace my eq1 mount as my slow motion controls just twist without moving the scope, and won't hold position once locked in (don't know if its a counterweight problem or not but I've slid the weight up and down to no avail). I'm interested in Stefans eq2 mount listed in the classifieds. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=106267

my question is, will the eq2 mount fit my tripod (its a Meade) or do they make different mounts for different tripods? I only paid 80 bucks off gumtree for the 114/900mm reflector ... it is old by what I can gather, supplied with MA ep's.

I really want a dob, but I enjoy what I see through this reflector as well. should I count my losses and get a dob, or get a fairly cheap fix for the worn out mount, or save for a manual eq3 setup after I get the dob. tax time is soon so I'm very undecided!

I will post some pics later of my setup if anyone needs them.

thanks in advance for whomever reads,

matt

I found out the answer, and it is no. apparently the mount head is a different size.

G'day Noeyedeer.

Just to be sure

Have you checked that the small lock bolts on the slow motion control are tight and set against the flat edge of the shaft? They do work loose and twist to the round side given a chance. Also have you checked that the clutch lock bolts are not damaged (just unscrew them and check the faces).

Regards

hi Colin, thanks for the reply.

when I figure out what all that is I'll let you know how it is. by what I see, everything feels and looks right. I'm off to Google what all that is and where it is. (I'm pretty lame when it comes to that jargon)

I have somewhat made it a little workable with the counterweight about 2 inches from the bottom.

I had a look at http://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/fe...-mounts-part-1 and the OTA on mine might not be balanced correctly. my brother in law bought the scope 2nd hand and the tube rings screws are so tight or stuck I can't undo them.

the Dec slow motions are the worst and that could be because of the lob sided ness of where the OTA is. I might need new rings and an angle grinder
