Anzac Day Moonrise, with a bonus plane transit

Hi all,

Clear skies in Brisbane yesterday, so I decided to head up Mt Coot-tha and catch the Moonrise at about 5pm. Was lucky to catch a QantasLink Dash-8 passing in front of the Moon as well .

The first image shows the Moon and Belt of Venus above the St Lucia reach of the Brisbane River.

I had the camera on burst mode for the plane transit. The second image is a single shot, and the last is a combination of 6 frames.

All shot with the 50D and 70-200 f/4L.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

I bet the heart raced a little bit when you saw that plane heading towards the moon.

Thanks JJJ and Dennis!

Yes JJJ, there's always a bit of excitement when you look at the angle of approach and realize that it might be a transit! It was complicated slightly by a couple of Chinese newlyweds trying to push in next to my tripod for a wedding photo, but I managed to keep them away until after the critical moment ...

Cheers,
Stephen

Top Stuff Chris, very effective. Looks like a popular route, the Brisy air traffic controller sure is doing a top job of queuing, super efficient.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments Trevor, Carlos and Mike! Shame I didn't have a 400mm lens for the plane transit...

Cheers,
Stephen
