The red deer have started their annual 'rut',its mating time, and the stags bellow challanges-the noise is kinda cross between a bull roar and lion, its a bit hard to explain, but once you have heard it-it will always be with you.
Its an exciting time, with a chance to get a photo, some friends like to hunt ,so I do not mind taking them out in the property to have a go.
I took a chap out to have a look, and I did some 'roar' calling, and a stag responded,it came in close, and it really started to sound like a bear!,I wanted to try and get some photos, but it was hiding,I made some fawn 'barks',and that got him in for a glimspe as he slid through the lantana.
I had the 400 mm L lens and canon 50D set at F 5.6, 1/250.iso 2000.I did not get much of a chance but got two frames, all of these are NO cropping, but I worked the first two in CS5,the next to are straight out of camera, apart from re sizing.distance was approx 80 metres, was getting dark-about 5.15 pm-in a dark gully.
I have a 70-200 L F 2.8,not sure to try it instead of 400,I could use the F 2.8,but I'd have to get a deer closer,or I get closer, what would some of the wildlife photographers here do to try and get a better image?
Hope these are of interest,it was quite enjoyable.
OPPS _ did have another worked version of image one with noise reduction, but could not load it,will try and re size it.
