...ever since the cooler months has come upon us the Jetstream has move north and perched itself front and center on Brissie, and seems about as likely to move off as a lazy glacier... can't remember the last time I saw Brisbane sneak out of the blue (or yellow) into the grey area on the Jetstream maps. I guess I shouldn't complain as the weather has been otherwise clear and fair, just not the playground for a planetary imaging addict
I'm with you Rob. I haven't had a Jupiter image worth Keeping since early May. I took some shots of the comets this morning @100mm and all the stars are lopsided triangular, and it's not the lens. But the skies are clear at least
Such brutal, uncaring and unfeeling responses. I thought we were a tight knit community who supported each other during these moments of crisis, showing copious amounts of empathy whenever we whinged.
Remind me not to go down a mine with Asi and Matt....
I'll be full of caring the first time I get 8.5-9/10 seeing
I guess we just don't understand Rob's pain.
What's it like to have had the best and then lost it?
Don't worry Rob. The jetstream will move away from Brisbane... you'll get all those great nights of near perfect seeing back, and those of us in Canberra and S.A will still be stuck in 4-5/10 seeing like we've always been and you'll have gained a greater understanding of our pain
oh, and it's got so darn cold up here too, Monday night I had to put a skivvy on to go out imaging... if it get's any worse I'll have to change into long trousers
Asi, can you get the orchestra to play Jazz?
Matt, you can go first in the mine and I'll hold the candle, ok
At least it's clear there. Here in Sydney, where's it's been drier than a poms bathroom ( sorry to our northern bretheren) all we've had are cloud, cloud , cloud.... ..wind, wind etc......and hardly any break at all, and we're still in drought!!!!! This has been going on for weeks, when there is a break it's full moon.
Robert,
Where can I find the maps of the jet streams.
I was at the SETI observatory at Aratula on Friday night, the sky was beautifully clear, but the strong wind prevented me from testing the "Starlight Xpress" system.
Visual obs were very good, Jupiter was crystal clear with well defined bands.
Omega Centauri and Eta Carinae were stunning as usual.
I'm gonna have to organise a weekend for you all to come and check out the dark skies.
If anything this bloody Jetstream is just getting worse - the southern states are clear, but poor ol'd brissie is still under the firm death-grip of the Jetstream ...
if this doesn't let up soon I'm going to move to Canberra

I think it's a seasonal thing Rob, from Autumn to Spring I guess you're in for the worst of it.
Sydney isn't much better, but we get the occassional hole that you haven't got lately!

Hi Mike, reckon you're probably right. It's great for Deep SKy up here in WInter, but suspect the seeing this time of year wont often live up to the summer season. Ah well, great to see you've been able to take advantage of the odd patch of good seeing when the Jetstream skirts north of you.
May be it's time to break out the Mewlon 180 as it's less affected by seeing and temp shifts than the 9.25.
