Thanks Larry. It was nice to take a different approach to imaging for a change.

Thanks Narayan. DSLR widefield imaging is quite involving with the night sky so I like that about it as well.

Yes agreed. I was thinking about it before I read this and just posted a higher contrast version. More exposure time of course always is a good thing. To some degree this is just experimentation with the DSLR. If I get a nice image I can concentrate just on that and set up the intervalometer and go to bed! Unfortunately this is a 4 in the morning scene.

A mosaic - hmm not a bad idea, I like mosaics.

Cheers Marc. Doing an allnighter with a DSLR was different to my normal imaging routine but I didn't take my astro gear to my dark site due to cloudy weather forecast and then I had 2 glorious clear nights!

Thanks for that!

Its an absolutely amazing camera. I thinking about getting a D600 as a 2nd time lapse machine due to limited time available to get the time lapses up. I'll see how the Sony Nex 6 works out first.

Greg.

Very nice! You don't seem to suffer from airglow... is that due to the short exposures or great skies?

I don't know Dave. I associate airglow with widefield images usually. I have noticed occassionally with deep sky shots there would be a bit of green and I wondered where it came from. It varies.
The skies at my dark site usually are very good though.

Greg.

Great looking widefield photo Greg.

The D800E is proving itself an outstanding astro camera.

Thanks Ross!
It is an amazing camera. It has relatively reasonable Ha response as well. Not as good as a modded camera but better than I expected.

This was 70mm using the wonderful Nikon 24-70 F2.8 ED lens which is one of their pro lenses. I use it a lot. It has superior coatings and gives a fantastic rendering to images. Its almost as good as a prime.
What I am also now discovering is it has really low chromatic aberrations compared to other lenses. There are 3 main Nikon pro lenses often regarded as the holy trinity - the 14-24mm F2.8, the 24-70 F2.8 and the 70-200mm F2.8ED. Canon has excellent equivalents except for the 14-24 at this stage although I read that they were developing one which is exciting for Canon owners. There are adapters that let you use Nikon lenses on Canon cameras so its no problem that way. I have one. Its made by Novoflex. A bit expensive but very well made.

Greg
