Comet Lemmon visits NGC 55
Hi All,
I tried to get Lemmon and NGC55 yesterday but had a few issues:
1) Forgotten counterweight shaft for my EQ5
2) Flat battery in the red-dot finder
3) bumped tripod after polar alignment (twice!)
4) Objects too low in the sky in the brown "mud"
Anyhow here is a mediocre image for the historic record of the event. I hoped that the tail would actually go over the galaxy but it was just a few arcminutes away.
Stellarvue 80mm, f/6, Sony NEX5N, 3x30 sec @ ISO 3200
Cheers,
Alex

Awesome...I love the way a green "Bowshock" shows up so well. It really imparts a sense of movement to the image.

What a great view, and that tail is really intense now! Thanks for sharing Alex.

That's a great image Alex.
I have a Nex 6 on the way I intend to modify after seeing your Loch Ord shots.
I still think about those shots sometimes. They were particularly impressive.
Greg.

Great Shot! looks like the mirrorless Sony NEX5N is going to have a great impact on wide field shots!

Well done Alex. Your shot reminds me of the naked-eye view of Haykutake all those years ago. The big green head, the twisting tail and the spikes coming off the coma. If only Lemmon was 10 times closer! your shot makes that happen. Many thanks,
Coops

Oh wow was my response. That has such a depth to it, its like the comet is just cruising by as you would down a highway with a building in the distance.
