It's been raining for 37 out of the past 50 days in Brisbane for 2013 (mostly cloudy the other days)... and still raining outside my window as I type this.
Sky...? What sky?!

Ah yes, no sky does make it hard ...but at least you don't get drawn into a false sense of security, setting up and then annoyed by the prevailing conditions resulting in poor data

I would have traded your gusty clear sky for our thunderstorm and heavy rain but went to bed instead.
Did you leave your money on the fridge????

Wind is frustrating. Many times my 12.5inch RCOS sat in the back of my car on trips to my dark site because of it.
FSQ is great that way as it sat below the walls and immune to wind.
How much a scope will be affected by wind is something I take into account for my dark site.
Does a dome stop that problem entirely or does it depend on wind direction? Althought at my dark site the wind is almost always from the same direction.
Greg.

Unless you're unlucky enough to be imaging directly into the wind - extremely rare I'd imagine - domes are THE remedy for wind! (except if you let one go with the dome slit shut ).
C'mon Mike, start that dome construction thread!!

I hear ya. Gully winds are a problem for me during Summer. The best times of the year to image are now and around October and November. Mind you, the RC8 copes well in the breeze.

It can be a real nuisance yeah, especially in an open field. When I did comet lovejoy from the top of a hill last year my tripod blew over a couple of time. Gave me the s||ts after a while. The view was great but bloody hell. You couldn't stand up straight.

...I wouldn't dare let one go in my Observatory if it were shut...although might kill the huntsmen spiders ...actually, had a big one on the mount last night, creepy buggers, had to brush it off before it crawled into the OTA
Greg, when I was imaging with my LX200 12" GPS under my former Sirius dome I could image in a gale at 2000mm Fl...it will be my remedy, I just need to get going on the project

Yeh great views from here too but although it was quite still the first two imaging sessions here back in Oct, every one since has been plagued by wind for some period ...I imagine it will settle down through winter though...then it will be -6C so the dome will be even more necessary, to prevent dew and ice forming on everything

Hi Mike
I think your wind is pushing the clouds over to my place.
Do you want them back.
