28 May Jupiter 7/10 seeing

Hi everyone,

Best nights seeing for ages. Here is a image, had to reprocess a number of times to try and reduce onions rings. Taken with 14" SCT 2X barlow and extention tube.

Great image scale and plenty of detail.

It might be my screen but that still looks dark?

I'd also like to see the image rotated with the GRS at top.

But that's just me.

Hi Matt,

Was playing with brightness= too much washed out detail and couldn't increase contrast too much due to onion rings.

Yeah, but are you talking about during capture?

What about during your processing?

You can adjust the contrast and brightness there.

I find it a really attractive image and more realistic looking because it's not too contrasty. Subtle colours and there's lots of detail. Wish I could do that. Can you give us the capture and processing details?

Hi Graeme,

captured 5 fps for 90 seconds gain=15% gamma=40% shutter speed= 1/10 second saturation is always 100%. This is with neximage. I don't know if you have a neximage or toucam. Toucam doesn't seem to perform on the same settings as the neximage.

Nice work, that's a lovely shot. And I agree with matt, the first one is darker than i'd prefer. I like asi's reprocess too. Nice work team.

I agree with the others, a bit more gain to lighten it up will also help to reduce the onion rings.

This is a smaller version from last night captured with only 2x barlow still 5 fps. Tried to keep it brighter during processing.

Hi Lester, I'm at it again! Not sure what I enjoy more, capturing or processing...I think processing is more fun! > <

Just thought I'd show you an example of what Astraimage can do to brighten up a dull image.

All I did here was split the panes, ME (maximum entropy) deconvolution on red & blue channels only. I left the blue alone.

I then did the 'bigger black border' trick in pic. publisher & a slight amount of unsharp masking. Thats it

A bit on the over saturated colour look but thats ok, it's only a quick demo version..

Glows in the dark. Been trying the extra black border. Went well till I tried to fill in the white to make it black and PP could not find brush named solid, then it freezes up and had to close down program. "It says can't find brush named solid, it may be installed incorrectly"

Looks like I now need to get into Astraimage. Been trying to brighten image in PP but didn't get anything as brilliant as you got.

Yep. Unfortunately either I'm not savvy enough or it depends on the image but Astraimage won't seem to do the same thing to all images. ie I can take another pic into astraimage & repeat the exact same process as I did to yours with different results.

See you in 2 years after I become fully fuctional with this program!

Ok, next time I'm out your place we'll wipe pic. publisher & reinstall it. As I said, I found a new way to install it without that stoopid scanner error coming up at startup.
