First watch Star Wars, then The Empire Strikes Back, and finally, if you must, Return of the Jedi.

Then stop watching.

And watch the original versions. On film if possible.
If you can't, then come around my place

The machete order is pretty cool though for all the reasons mentioned in the blog.

I love the old laserdiscs.
Which Star Wars LDs do you have?

I like the Japanese Special Collection laser discs, as they don't have the smeary Digital Noise Reduction of the Definitive Edition and 'Faces' Laserdiscs.

What player do you have Allan? I'm trying to repair an HLD-X0 at the moment, the player weighs half as much as I do!

36kg! I could hardly lift in onto the work bench.

This, although Jedi is still a good film.

I totally agree with the sentiment of the OP/ Link.

The angst you feel as you try pass this knowledge on to your
offspring can be fraught with danger. It can fall flat or sometimes
it can work.

BSG......Original series, initiated the kids when I felt they were truly ready
to bathe in it's clunky late 70's /80's awesomeness......

Worked!...they love it...

BSG 2nd series and onwards....hmmm Myeah..so so reaction.
Same as me...You just can't beat the original Adama/ Viper/ Battlestar/ basestar...I should stop here, I could be here all night.

Terminator 1....Boy loved it...played it over and over...loves it for
all of the concepts and things it makes you ponder.

T2...awesome...he loved that too...thought Sarah Connor was a bad-ass/ hot/ ...hmmm my job was done here... ...next...

T3....fell flat..yep...I agree son, it is ****e.

Next fillum I had to wait until he was truly ready.
It was like passing on an heirloom.
He just HAD to truly appreciate this fillums awesomness or I would feel
like I was a failure as a Dad.
So we watched Highlander.

We haven't spoken much for a few days.... I miss him.

Steve
Yes Highlander one of the great movies, although I loved Jedi so I'm probably not the greatest of judges (hey I was only 10 or so in 82 or whenever it was released).

I disagree with your assessment on Jedi, it's a good movie, not as good as Empire or the Original but here are some of my favourite moments off the top of my head.

1/ Luke and Vader's relationship develops and becomes some twisted, complex intimate relationship that never seemed possible in Empire.

2/ Speeder Bikes were freakin' cool.

3/ The final dogfight in space was one of the wonders of 20th century film.

4/ Leia was wearing some pretty cool costumes at the start of it

5/ Luke entering Jabba's palace at the start of the movie was worth the entry fee. Similarly when Vader lands on the Death Star at the start of the movie and gets cranky with the commander over the progress of the Death Star, gold.

6/ Luke and Vader's banter during their final dual is gold. The dual itself is also very entertaining.

7/ The stormtroopers bringing Luke to Vader on Endor and the discussion that ensues is fantastic IMO.

8/ The Falcon weaving through the catacombs of the Death Star at the end of the movie, 5 stars.

9/ Luke has a green lightsabre! So cool.

Probably only equates to 30 mins of film time but I'm richer for it

Yup.

BSG 1 - thumbs up
BSG 2 - YIK

Alien - thumbs up
Aliens - THUMBS up
Alien 3 - odd, but unlike most, I enjoyed it
Alien Resurrection - pure shinola.
Prometheus - despite the carp acting, I like the premise of the entire film. The real "what if".
Alien vs Predator series - pure unadulterated carp.

Predator - liked it
Predator 2 - garbage
Predators - average

Star Wars - loved it
Empire Strikes Back - the best of the series
Return of the Jedi - mediocre
All the prequels - YAWN

Best SciFi movie in all of history: The Forbidden Planet.

Best SciFi movie in all of history: The Forbidden Planet.[/QUOTE]

loved that movie...found a copy on the net. There was another movie with the same robot called "the atomic city" i think. The robot was looking after the scientists 10 year old son....the robot made varous toys for the boy, the best being a remote controlled "kite" that the boy flew on...much to his mothers dismay. Would like to find a copy of that movie

All the original series were worthy of their era, the prequels were just calculated profit makers and not in the original sentiment for me, but each to their own.

Lookup 'Robbie the robot' for more information. He appeared in a few films and on TV.
You can even buy a life size replica for only $30,000 !

I kinda like the idea of the Machete order.

Given the weather forecast through the Australia Day weekend (Have you seen the forecast? Good grief!), I can see a Star Wars marathon happening.

During a previous bout of insomnia, I got to watching BSG 1 in the wee hours. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it - more than I thought I would. Perhaps it brought back memories of the first time I watched it. I wasn't too fond of Galactica 1980.

I did like BSG 2 (re-imagined), though, but it could have been edited down a bit - there was enough material for 3 seasons and I thought it was a bit stretched to fill 4.

I loved the new BSG, got totally addicted to it and bought the Bluray box set.

Best thing I'd watched in ages.

More recently, really enjoying Game of Thrones on BD, and the first series of TWD. Can't imagine watching either hacked up, censored and with ads though.
