Exploration Optics was founded due to my frustration of the high pricing of nebula filters. The coating process isn't that expensive and I just couldn't justify some $440 per 2" filter for my own use - that's $1320 if you want all three (UHC, O-III and H-Beta). So after a bit of research, we proved we could make them cheaper as a standard unit and even offer a premium grade unit which is double glazed and almost impossible to scratch. The standard units are a single optic with the coating on one side and are very scratch resistant as well. Another way we keep costs down is to sell the units that don't meet our quality standards as factory seconds rather than throwing them out. We are also looking into custom optic fabrication in the future.
