Monkey Head Nebula

Hi,

NGC 2174 the monkey head nebula is another one that has so many colours it's hard to decide where to stop with processing.

Anyway, this is my latest version.

8" f/4 astrograph, orion mini guider, HEQ Pro 5 mount.

Unmodded canon 1100D baader coma corrector.

8 minute subs at iso 800, total 72 minutes, darks flats and bias frames applied.
Median stack in DSS, processed in PS 7.

Cheers,

Justin.

You trumped me nicely there Justin. I was planning on getting some colour with this one when my access to the Arizona scope is restored tomorrow. Yours is a very very nice image with beautiful colour and I think I'll struggle to do any better or even as good. It must be pretty low for you so that makes it even better.

Cheers

Steve

Yes, that's a great image Justin with some lovely hues; your unmodded 1100D seems to pick up the reds quite well. I seem to recall my 400D wasn't very good at picking up the reds.

Thanks Steve!

Your image in colour should be better with the HA data you have.

Thanks David!

The 1100D is good camera, infact I have another which I just purchased for modding. Before I send it off I'll do a side by side comparison to if they perform the same.

Cheers,

Justin.

A really impressive image and I love your processing as you have preserved the star colours so well. Great processing.

Thanks Allan,

Iv'e added more data to this image, which I will post later. It looks promising, smoother and more detail.

Cheers,

Justin.
