Thats right Gazz, school is not a fleeting forgetfull time, the memories last a lifetime, character building at a critical time.

Caleb, if the issue is really important to you, then you could attempt to take a stand for what you wish. Problem is, your parents are paying the school to enforce this ruling on hair length. I guess you already know that most things we wish for, end up being some sort of compromise. Think of a compromise as a partial "win". I can't offer any tips on how to avoid a modified hair length, apart from changing schools (bad idea I think). I can suggest you try shorter hair but maybe tinted, or some radical style that conforms on length. That way, you can show your willingness to compromise and get your partial win, while still maintaining this aspect of your individuality. I'm old, and have had countless partial wins. Over the years my hair has varied in length from very long to very short, and currently is relatively long (shoulder length). I too, am constantly being told I should get a haircut. Somehow, me getting a haircut is going to improve the world for these people, I like my world as it is, and fortunately I am not obliged to conform to their narrow minded ideas of "normality". Wish you luck and all the best with your band and career. Mark

and as i said, those school years will pale in to insignificance. dont sweat the small stuff and look at the big picture. when this guy is 40 and a airline pilot is he going to look back to this year and cure the school for ruining the most important year of his life by making him get a hair cut and ruining his rock image? i doubt it.... he will be too busy spending his huge wage on astro stuff

My point was if you aspire to be an airline pilot then surely the hair and music is not really that important to your life. Sure you can play guitar and whatever music you like but you do that in your private time. As far as the choice of music is concerned, that is personal preference. At the end of the day classical music training can make you a better musician whatever music you play.
You mention that you have been flying for 2 months. What aircraft do you fly and have you gone solo yet?
There is a big difference between a private pilot licence and a commercial transport pilot licence. I'm sure that you realise this.
If i was in your shoes I wouldnt let the hair and music issue cloud my judgement. I would concentrate on getting the required grades and getting out of the school as quickly as possible.
Nil illegitimum carborundum
(Latin for "Dont let the *******s grind you down")
good point with the music.
no solo yet, il be 15 in about 4 months and i shall be ready by then.

Well this hair cut thread certainly got some mileage, can you imaging if it were something more serious.

Perhaps we should term it a 'long strand'? There are probably differing views about whether it should be snipped. I'm trying to think of something more serious but without success - perhaps you could suggest something .

What a stimulating thread!

I'd just like to say that this has been a truly interesting thread and I'd like to thank Caleb for kicking it off. It's made us all think and examine our motivations and attitudes. What could be more stimulating and in the spirit of true science? The opinions expressed have revealed what a truly diverse and extraordinary bunch of individuals that we are. As a certain individual once said; "The things that unite us are greater than the things that divide us."
It has been a privelege and joy to participate! Whilst I've agreed with some and disagreed with others, it's been a joy to be part of the general discussion and I'm proud to consort with such free thinking individuals! Thank you very much EVERYONE and dark skies to ALL!

Agreed, life would be unbelieveably boring if we were all clones with identical interests and thoughts. Words like "discussion", "arguement" and "opinion" would be irrelevant ^.^
