Yes I agree entirely with you, the Beatles were the UK's second rate imitators inspired by the greatly talented and original Monkees outfit. The Jackson 5 broke up and the individuals never had another hit until half time at the superbowl a few years ago. Well Dana, she of course went onto great things on the X-Files, probably composed the theme song as well.

UK: If - Telly Savalas
US: Black Water - Doobie Brothers
AU: Please Mr Postman - The Carpenters

Don't know any of those songs! Maybe if I heard them...
Know two of the Artists tho(whew!)... Doobie Bros and The Carpenters... but Telly Savalas?

For a few months before I was born, my mum constantly listened to Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, thru headphones.... over and over and over again... I think it filtered through tho 'coz I'm a HUGE fan of Tubular Bells!

Eric,

That footnote has sent me shuffling for my beige cardigan (the one with the door handle from a 1955 Morris Minor in the pocket) and now that I think of it, Where did I park that car?

Greg.

P.S. Even more daunting is coming to grips with the fact that a number of the mentioned songs were "Hits" when we were teenages.

"My old man's a Dustman" in Aust by Lonnie Donnegan

"Stuck on You" in the USA by Elvis

"Cathys Clown" in the UK by the Everly Brothers

Hmmmm, some Yardbirds or John Mayall would have been preferable.

Cheers

For me it's

UK Magic Moments - Perry Como

US Catch A Falling Star – Perry Como

Aus Catch A Falling Star – Perry Como

Wot! I hate Perry Como. If they had the radio in the delivery room I would have been the first baby born with its fingers in its ears.
