Roger's point no. 2 is a big one - this site is such a mountain of searchable info, there have been concerns in the past about losing valuable info others could learn from (often only a small % of people post in forums they have read and learned from).

Wouldn't it be possible to create a dedicated astro channel on a suitable chat site? (umm - apologies if that's what some of the posts already say - not a chat junkie here as you can tell)....

I'd be in there for sure....

I must say I've checked in to the DarkskyAU flashchat quite a few times recently when I've been out imaging... Its usually been empty... It used to be fairly busy at one stage from 8:30pm EST through till at least 1 or 2AM..

We all need to pick it up again!!

Dougy's site was a hit maybe we should all pick a time and all go in check this one out Rob http://www.darkskyau.com/

or as MrB sugested i checked this one out today and Octane was still sleeping

If you'd like to check it out, (as I said, I'll be pretty quiet 'till later tonight)
try the Java client on
http://www.dal.net/, it's not nice but useable...
Enter a nickname where it says "Chat Now" and click "GO!"
Then when all the rubbish text stops scrolling, type: /Join #IceInSpace

I voted yes. Its not something I would use all the time, but when its cold and wet = not good for any astronomy, it would be a good pass time.

Its cold and wet now.

I voted no, but now I've spent the last two nights in chat
Now the clouds have rolled in so it's looking like three nights.

Went with no , message boards work well in that they give a pretty credible source of info that anyone can access .

Chat rooms creep me out .
