OK Asi-squarepants.

Last time I tried the old method (your way) the Star Dropper had an 'SCT' (Slightly Crooked Top).
Then I hit my thumb and yelled 'Shmidt'. But luckily a young lady heard me yell and came along to help. I said 'what's your name?' She replied 'Cassy Grain'. She said the only way to correct the top of that post is with a 'Corrector Plate' but that would be 'secondary'. Then she said "The Primary problem is I don't know your name" So I introduced myself, "I'm Mr. Sutov, but you can call me Mac!"
To which she replied "Hi Mac Sutov".
She seemed like a nice young girl, I hoped she didn't work in the 'Red Light' district.
We stood back to get a better 'view' and to study the 'Magnitude' of the situation. It seemed the only way to get the dropper into the ground was to dig the ground up a bit. But we couldn't just jump in and do it, we had to 'Plan it' "Where's the Garden fork?" she asked. I told her it's in the Fork Mount next to the Ford Galaxy parked over near the 'Cluster' of sheds.
She asked if the old Ford was the overhead cam model. "No" I said, "It's the Two Cam model".
Then my dog started walking over for a pat. My dog is a collie, so I called out "come here Collie mate". Cassy said he is a nice dog, and asked if he is the only dog I have. "Yes" I replied. "I had another dog called Estron, but I had to sell him". She asked "why did you Sell Estron?" "Oh, he dug craters everywhere" I answered, "and once he even dug up my 'Canopus' plants".
Anyway, we had to 'Focus' on the task at hand and we returned to getting the Star dropper into the Earth.

I'm in the undecided camp - but I'm certain of one thing the crop circles that have appeared overnight in areas of England certainly aren't manmade.
The famous Doug and Dave crop circle hoaxers of the early 90's (I think) could never have produced the intricate patterns which have us in awe.
I remember one serious study done by a German guy around the same time - he looked at histology of the corn, electromagnetic studies in the circles etc - very detailed real science. It concluded that the only explanation for the observed data was some sort of gravity wave!
I remember there was one story in the book about a night when the crop circle researchers repeatedly stumbled over British army patrols in the same area one night, and still with all this activity there was a magnificent crop circle in the field below them the next morning.
Maybe it's the British army!
Look, I don't know what the hell causes them or what they're about - I just like to look at 'em. Kind of like women!!!!!

Cheers all

Doug

The fact that the guy concluded the cause was "gravity waves" is proof that there was no science in what he was doing, just the art of con. For a gravity wave to cause even the slightest detectable movement in a blade of grass you'd need an enormous mass moving at tremendous speeds. Something like say replacing the nearby Alpha Centauri A & B double with a couple of black holes.

Seriously.....I would LIKE to believe that extraterrestrials are doing this, but it's illogical to believe this. Therefore I don't. JMHO

The hoaxers make it difficult. Even if 0.001 percent was unexplained it would be interesting to get to the bottom of the few real cases.

Think of it like this. Imagine if for every single true astronomy report there were 1000 fake, hoax and misleading reports. Something like that stupid Mars email thing times 1000! Where would astronomy be then? Even ONE bad report like that totally messes up most of the uninformed general public.

I've been exploring various aspects of the supernatural/paranormal, which has the same problem. It seems to attract lunatics and hoaxers like flies to rotten meat. Sifting through the balony takes some reading, careful thought, and sometimes preconceived ideas need a rethink!

Maybe it wasn't gravity waves then!!!
From the tone of the post I hoped people would realise I was talking about a book I had read with a passing interest over 8 years ago - the real science I mentioned referred to the field work and follow up laboratory work he conducted on samples from the crop circles and not the theories formulated to explain this work.

Regardless of the people who stand up as "experts" in various fields, be it crop circles or astronomy. The beauty of these phenomena is undeniable.

All the best

Doug

Nice site with pretty pictures and a history of when and where the various patterns were formed.

http://www.lovely.clara.net/history.html

Forget the cranks - compare the self confessed man made circles found at
http://www.circlemakers.org/ with the "unexplained" examples above.

Which ones hold your attention for longer?
Do all look man-made.
I know that when I'm aware a crop circle is man-made, I notice more flaws, less finesse to the curves and linear detail.
God only knows!

Yes, all look man made. Like all man made things, some are made better than others.

The psuedo scientific/newage spiritual claptrap that goes along with it all gives me more to worry about than the circles themsleves.

Cheers
