yes probably more that one - and the mayor is pro development so have no chance.

to be honest i have delayed projects in the area now for years - and at one stage when i was looking after the street lighting i even denied the hospital from getting a street light near me. that was 17 years ago.with restructures i lost that privileged. i knew the day would come - but was hoping the council coffers couldn't cough up the dosh - well in truth they didn't - it was Bunnings putting in another blxxxdy store

I live in a cul de sac with only 5 houses on the outskirts of town and 1 street light at the end. The street light has been off for the past 3 years, but just before christmas a power company truck came to fix the light I told them not to worry about it but they said that they had to fix it re a complaint from no1 on the corner (bad new neighbour). Christmas came and so did the christmas lights, then the streetlight stopped working again, it was drowning out the xmas lights. Handy to have a sparky next door (good neighbour). The light is back on now but it took the power company a couple of trips to fix the problem. The only good thing about the streetlight is that it is bright enough to work on the kids cars on the street at night.......maybe if I do that often enough the neighbour will get p'd off and be glad when the light stops working again.

Sorry to hear your predicament David. It just keeps getting worse all the time and there is nothing you can do except get to a darker site.

ok here is the benchmark

well they are fuzzy and blurry but you get the picture ;0- a happy snap quickly done but this shows the current monstrosity on the corner - note they haven't turned the others on yet. note that they are exactly the same settings on each shot

have included similar shots of the daytime and when the rotten B things are turned on i will post the results. but just look at the impact of the one and only light on the corner after they upgraded it - and they are going to multiply that by 8

That's just rubbish Dave, friggin nightmare

Maybe your neighbours there across the street or next door will complain about their houses being bathed in bright light at night, looks atrocious from your photo....maybe you could bring it up with them both?

but until they turn them on they wont notice - well except for the permanent orange afro am onto that and will get them to individually complain

now the interesting part is that the houses in the street to my south will be lit up just as much as me - now they are 2 house blocks and a road away from the lights - nearly 100m

note that this was a view a few years ago

Yeah, narrow band should be quite doable especially in a dome and as long as you aren't pointing over toward the brightest group..but man, they are all around you ...if your neighbors hate'em too you might be in with a chance of having something done.

I got the council out at night to measure Lux . They said it read too low but if I had complained because the light from the street light/s was coming into the bedroom and disturbing my sleep they would have change the fitting or install screens on the offending lights. They told me, off the record, to spray paint the part of the light that was facing my property which I did using a fibre glass pole with string and a top pivot onto the top of the attached black spray can. It worked well....All hope is not lost Howey..

the fittings are over 8m in the air, no way of touching them:sad eyes: without a 10m platform on a truck

I just noticed yesterday my local council has put back shields on ALL the sodium and mercury vapour lamps around us!!! I had noticed how different it was lately! YAY!

I will still need to limit myself to NB, but such is life. There are some former sugar cane fields not too far away that are dark at night....

Erm, I wouldn't be openly suggesting shooting lights here guys. Unless you have an unregistered firearm, it won't take Mr Plod too long to narrow down the registered firearms owners in the area and then check who has been complaining about light pollution...

High power slingshot with lead sinkers is a better option (unless they are illegal in NSW now too!)

Are there restrictive lighting codes that are invoked if you register as an Observatory. Astro Ron may know more

I once had a guy buy my Mak scope. He turned out to be a council worker and had the keys to the junction box that controls the street lights... he did tongue in cheek offer his services

Maybe you could bribe someone with a bottle of JW or a carton of beer... just on specific nights... not likely, but odder things have happened.

Just have to go NB Hoff.. can't see an easy way out for you. Just shield the dome as much as is possible, and predominate in H-a. LRGB is going to be a gradient nightmare for you, as it was me (and the major reason I sold OSC CCD - no NB capability, so gradient galore!)
