From the little I have seen of his contributions on the sketching forum and his meticulous instructions on how to emulate his skills I sense a great loss to the astro community.
My thoughts and condolences to all the family on such a sudden and tragic loss.

Hi All,

Am in shock over Scott's sad passing at such a young age.

Scott was one of the most talented observers and sketch artists I had the pleasure to meet and a very humble guy who was exceptionally dedicated to Astronomy.

His sky knowledge was simply outstanding and was one of the unsung contributors to the ASNSW usually because he never ever blew his own trumpet -- he just got on with things.

Hard to believe the news.

Best,

Les D

You can feel the pain, anguish and loss within this thread... it’s gut wrenching. To the point I’m just about sobbing like a baby.
I didn’t know Scott, but the work I’ve seen has been nothing short of amazing. I came to know of his work through Alexander (Mental) doing cartwheels of excitement over his work and feeding us with links to his amazing pictures. A truly brilliant artist.

He has left behind an incredible legacy that’s for sure. He’s memory through his work will live on and continue to inspire many - forever.

Having met Scott at a few star parties, I was amazed by his skill and passion. A warm generous and gentle person who will be missed by the astro community.
Condolences to Scott's family.

A tribute to Scott Mellish

Astronomy Sketch of the Day has created a collage of sketches Scott had submitted and that had earned the merit of the site's mission.

Scott's work had earnt some 35 gongs on ASOD. And each is an incredible treasure in their own right.

Scott, mate, I salute you, and will sorely miss you.

Alex.

In memory of Scott Mellish

This is my first message on this website after reading all your thoughts and memories of Scott.

Your kind & heartfelt messages to his loving family, mother Pat, sisters Jodie & Tracey & family members are overwhelming and are being read with much appreciation.

Scott was my cousin, he was a kind and gentle soul, a true gentleman, dedicated sky observer & extremely talented sketch artist. He was a quiet man who had a sense of humor which came out when you least expected it.

My dad spoke today of how he, Scott's dad Noel (deceased) & Scott went away some years ago when Scott was quiet young to the Blue Mountains. Scott built a telescope and they watched the stars over a couple of freezing cold nights and days in a tent. Scott explained what he saw and my dad still remembers how much he loved observing the sky.

I believe Scott had just gone on a another trip closer to his beloved stars and the world he could only reach through his drawings and telescope.

Rest in Peace Scott
