I'm holding my breath for the moonrise eclipse tonight too. The sun is actually out and there are no clouds in the sky. I'd quite forgotten what the sun looked like.

I've had the doona on the last 2 nights - makes a change from a sheet and the ceiling fan!

I don't like our chances of that Ron.
I'll be more than happy if it's clear this evening so we can enjoy our Solstice gift.

That might explain why my stars weren't that sharp in the images despite the fact that I'd pretty well nailed the focus...

What time does the moon actually rise for us, this site says 18:54 for Point danger but I suspect it is not taking in DST?

I went out for a few hours last night. The moon was big and bright but still had a terminator edge so i popped in some eyepieces to test and managed to use my 6mm TMB barlowed (400x) and was still quite achievable even though the air was a bit turbulent.

The orion neb although not as big as usual still had plenty of colour as did the tarantula. I was able to see a few other fuzzies around the LMC although i couldn't see the LMC at all! Couldn't spot much else as Jupitor was too low in the trees.

It was nice to just be able to get the scope out.

cheers

The widget on my phone says moonrise at 18:40 for Brisbane.... I suspect your suspicions are correct...

Mario, Jupiter was very mushy, I must admit it was about 45deg above the horizon but it could have been better
