Just google my name and you will see the small number of papers I am an author on.
try 'A. Van donkelaar' or 'Albert Van Donkelaar'. See if you guys even start to understand the introductions.
Sorry
Bert
I'm all eyes and ears Bert. I'd be interested in reading up on your papers. Please provide the links. I'm not going to debate your "crap in crap out" statement here. PM offline to discuss further or lets start another thread.
Sorry Jase I have more than forty published papers in very prestigious journals. The last thing I wanted to do was play the mine is bigger than your game!
It's a lovely image Eric, perhaps not a CCD killer though in my honest opinion.
Is it possible to put up a full res version so we can have a closer look, both your posted versions are around 1000px, both approx the same.
As a side note, these sorts of petty mud slinging matches does nothing for the hobby at all, apart from causing division.
It goes on all the time, Dobs vs SCTs, Canons vs Nikons, Meade vs Celestron, modded vs unmodded blah blah blah.
Quite frankly I get sick of it.
I'm here to enjoy everyone's work, whether it's done using a 20" RC with an SBig on a Paramount ME or a Toucam thru a Dob !
I try to ignore derogatory statements aimed at inflaming other people because of what equipment they use or how smart they are.
Who cares what equipment they use, if they can afford it then good luck to them.
If they get 'cocky' about themselves then I move on, no matter what they use or how inteligent they are.
Needless to say nor do I like the 'sour grapes' attitude others take as well, when they don't acknowledge the wonderful work through skill, being done with quality equipment but rather they say "yeah but look at the equipment he's using".
I believe that if we come across these situations then it's best to just move on and continue to do our best with what we have and not get sucked into useless arguments.
No one would knock back any high end equipment if they had the chance to afford it so why should we belittle people that can afford it and know how to get the best out of it?
I'm not trying to offend anyone here but rather want to put things in perspective, as I said it's a lovely image taken through a DSLR but I don't see it as a CCD killer.
It was the "crap in crap out", and " grow up " comments that annoyed me.

Could not your Ph.d thesis anywhere.
As far as I can find from CSIRO publications (including a nice glossy report with a piccy of you "*Mr* Bert" loading a crystal sample) you worked as a lab tech wiz in Parkville and obtained x-ray diffraction data for the resident scientists, without which the "papers" by these relevant doctorates would have been a little thin.
I reckon it's a killer image of Eta regardless of the gear used to achieve it.
Your images are consistently of very good quality !
I like your M20 as well mate !
It's been fun reading this thread! Sounds like an old woman's day at the doctors surgery Your image's awesome Eric! You can certainly kick ass and stir things up too.
Ok, i'm going to get flamed or have started a war between CCD's and DSLR's LOL. It seems i always come across websites labeling their CCD products as a "DSLR Killer!" so heres one back
Ofcourse no offense intended to all CCD owners as i can only dream to get myself an SBIG/Starlight/FLI camera! Personally speaking, I still do love and own the meade DSI!
It's been a while since I submitted any images to IIS as I've been busy spending all my spare time doing amateur astronomy.
I wouldn't let the DSLR KILLER slogan bother you - especially considering the forum member(s) concerned are making humour of it on their own forum (not too difficult to find on www).
If you buy one of those $10,000 large format CCD cameras well you are going to get better resolution than our lowly $1,200 DSLR cameras. I think most of us already know that (because of the bayer matrix on the DSLR which reduces the effective pixel resolution as opposed to a CCD that takes full resolution images in combination with a filter wheel).
BUT..... for around $1,400 nearly any one can get started taking their own astro images - and that's what's important - the more poeple that can get into astro-imaging then all the better I think for the popularisation of amateur astronomy. Gee they can even take the DSLR of the 'scope out for everyday photos too! If everyone had to buy a CCD camera to get into imaging there probably wouldn't be many of us.
I know my own images are not the best.. gee I use a 1st generation DSLR.. the 6 MegaPixel Canon 300D... but the fact I can produce images of the heavens for me to look at and show my family and work friends is all thats important to me (spreading the interest).
Anyhow here's an image I did of ETA C. It is looking at the core of the nebula. And done with a 12" GSO 'scope and the old Canon 300D. Better look here http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/ngc3372g2.html
Nice chatting with ya EzyStyles and keep up that spectacular DSLR work you have been doing!

Hi Paul, totally correct there. At the end of the day, its pretty much showing the heavens to your family and friends what exactly is out there thats the most enjoyable part. Yes a $10k will definitely out perform a $1,200 DSLR but what if a $1,200 out performs a $10k CCD? wouldn't that be funny? Not trying to stir things up as i said seeing websites using slogans on their CCD products as a "DSLR KILLER" really puts me off rather, it should saying in the lines of "out performs a DSLR" would sound much better than DSLR KILLER.
