yes but only southern oz (taz) and NZ get it at its
highest and all night long all year round, from an inhabited southern continent/island

historically speaking, the importance of the so-x and pointers as a simple but critical navigation device in SH, not just at sea, couldnt possibly be over estimated? pre GPS modern navigation, and ipso facto in the building of a nation? a sense of place ect. ect.
i rather like some versions of the brazilian flag were they go beserk with it, i would like to see a flag with winter SH milky way overhead, the pipe nebula perhaps? some bok globules and a few satr clusters mebbe
