Flag or No Flag...not something I have considered or feel strongly about.

If more linkage to Australia is desired, what about the "Made in Australia Green Triangle"?

I understand that there is a process to be approved to use the symbol but I don't know what it entails in total.

My brother quite some years ago was on a first flight of Qantas 747 as a first officer to an African country. The terminal building was a shed. Yet he heard the local kids who had gathered to see the landing say 'it must be from Australia see the kangaroo'.

I sort of surprised (probably not, thinking about it ) with huge diversity of response here, though placing Kangaroo meat in front of a Vegetarian might be a problem.
ving's flag is pretty good, but then we would probably have to consider placing him as the alternative P.M. (I'm uncertain that he wants that - though it might mean we could get the taxes on telescope and astronomical equipment dropped for all of us.)
As an example, of what I was alluding to would be fairly subtle.
(See Above)
Of course, the other possibility would be an international string of
southern hemisphere flags all in the row representing the international diversity of ISS.
Another suggestion, is that you could also add such a flag at the bottom of the "IceInSpace Menu" (placed on the left column) and above the "Donate Ice in Space" logo/ button without much offence.
Overall this might not essential, and I agree certainly should be subtle

Just an idea by a passionate Aussie.

Regards,
Andrew

I know that I am Australian, you know you are Australian, that should be good enough.
Except the slowness of iis on my computer I am happy with things as they are

Agreed. However, if you don't say your Australian, some would then end up thinking your American!
It's funny, I think, that it is alright America being patriotic and ostentatious about their country, but strange the only means we can counteract it, is to do the opposite and be subdued and subtle. I also agree, being the "Quite Achiever" does have its advantages - you can remain the best country in the world - and you can keep the secret all to yourself.
Sure it is a dilemma, whose only position is likely best to be somewhere in between.

yes but only southern oz (taz) and NZ get it at its highest and all night long all year round, from an inhabited southern continent/island
historically speaking, the importance of the so-x and pointers as a simple but critical navigation device in SH, not just at sea, couldnt possibly be over estimated? pre GPS modern navigation, and ipso facto in the building of a nation? a sense of place ect. ect.

i rather like some versions of the brazilian flag were they go beserk with it, i would like to see a flag with winter SH milky way overhead, the pipe nebula perhaps? some bok globules and a few satr clusters mebbe

I think our hobby unites us from across borders, the stars and the universe is our flag. With respect to our universe our borders and flags seem inconsequential. The infinite diversity and combination of the universe is what enchants and unites us all.

The Union Jack is made with flags from history although I like Australia as Australia we should keep it (the Union Jack) in our flag just with some new history over is to keep it in perspective maybe a super nova to instill that perspective... man lets not make too much of the question..

But its a good cloudy day thread thats for sure..
Lets go for the international flavour keep it the way it is and respect Mikes idea of how he would like his site to look.

But we need more flag variations really I see two crossed Dobs in a new flag somehow
