Cheers for the recommendation on the red dot finder guys... maybe i will check those out also... the straight through finder just seems awkward to be able to get down and look through so i didnt really bother using it much. Will be a while before the weather clears here anyway... i guess its true when u buy a telescope it rains

Mainly the red dot finder is useful to 'starhop' from one star to the next to find an object using a star atlas or planetarium app but some objects"eg orion nebula M42" are bright enough to be directly targeted with the RDF. Cheers Richard

Update...

Managed to see jupiter tonight just on dark before clouds came over! I could clearly see the 2 bands on the planet and 4 moons. Very simple i suppose but exciting for me haha. Also got a good look at the moon too. I want a mount for my iphone now so can take some pics a little easier lol tho i did manage to get some!

I appreciate everyones help and advice so far.
