It's a pity that the very reason these things are exciting and attractive to our thrill-seeking youngsters is the very real possibility that this will happen.

On an unrelated topic, from my perspective as a father of 2 young girls, when I see a post simply titled 'kids!' from someone who calls themselves 'nightstalker' on an Internet forum, my trigger finger starts to twitch...
Only on an amateur astronomy forum could there be an innocent explanation!

I simply liked the tv show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_McGavin
and noticed when I registered that he had recently passed away .

Your insinuation in regard in more ways than you could ever know I find deeply offensive and as such will deal with it .. sorry

There was absolutely no insinuation whatsoever - and no intention to offend, which is why I went to some pains to point out that it was clearly an innocent coincidence that would be unique to an astronomy forum... But to the casual observer you must appreciate that it's an unfortunate juxtaposition. Unreserved apologies for any offense perceived.

I have kids too, about that age and younger. Love them all very much, however; I think she got what she deserves. There is no "poor girl" in it for me. Nothing but sheer stupidity and a full on Darwin Award.

I have the same ' sentiments ' ....now she's paying for her ' choice ' in partaking in such a potential risk taking adventure.
I do wish her well....but it could have been prevented by ' making a wise choice ' to remain out of it.
