Hi Everyone,

I am hoping to get some assistance from a fellow astronomer versed in the use of Pix Insight in the Brisbane area.

I have recently purchased Pix Insight as I have read and seen the power of this tool but to be completely honest I get a bit lost in the software and tools. specifically an order of processing recommended to get good consistent results.

I shouldn't have issues as I work in IT so am usually pretty good with grasping new things computer related (must be getting old).

Anyway if there is anyone in the Brisbane area that would be available to sit down and take me through this software I would be most grateful as I think it will take me many years to master this on my own.

to be honest Anthony, download and watch the Harry Page videos as a starter - you cant go wrong there. they might be slightly different to the current PI software - but the functionality and learning will be the same. I believe that harry will be refreshing his video collection but for now they are pure gold. After that fork out some dosh for the Warren Keller videos on DVD. You will be a master in no time. Also go through and have an extensive read in the PI forum. there are some major hints and tips there.

Hi David,

Thanks for the details, I had a look at Harry's page and will go through these tutorials asap ( make the most of the cloud rain and full moon ) but I do think the DVD is a good way to go as well as they look to contain more details from what I can tell.

Try the tutorials first. We had a meet up at my house last year and exchanged a few ideas on PI. Might be due for another one later this year.

I got started using Harry's tutorials too and built up a workflow from there. I have a rough outline of my "standard" processing recipe that I'd be happy to send you. I also keep notes on how I processed each of my images so I can show you a few of those too.

I'm traveling at present but if you PM me I'll respond when I can.

I am to, a bit lost with PI. I have the tutorials including the paid ones but not sure after batchprocessing which images to use and the next step.

If you told BPP to integrate the images then you'll find master light frames in the "master" directory. If you didn't, then you'll want to do a manual ImageIntegration on the groups of registered light frames in the "registered" directory. It's generally better to do the integration manually because then you can tweak the rejection parameters to get best signal to noise ratio.

Once you have master light frames you can start doing the stuff in the tutorials (probably DBE, perhaps some noise reduction, stretch, etc...)

I am still gnashing my teeth whether to spend the 171 Euro for it or not.

I have had a long play with the free demo, and I kinda like it, but have become VERY used to DSS and Photoshop.

I'm a bit busy next couple of weeks to do one on one Anthony, but happy to try and help with questions and could get on the phone from time to time if need be.

Harry Page's videos really are EXCELLENT. That's the way most of us jumped in. You don't have to change right over at once. I found myself doing 80% in PI for quite a while then eventually doing more and more of the final touchups in there too.

A bit time poor but working through it, Harry's videos are definitely the way to go to get started. As with all new things it takes time.

yeh it is a lot of money but I can see from my playing around it is way more powerful than PS or DSS, I used my B'day money to purchase it and feel it was the right choice despite the steep learning curve.

Hi Rob,

Will definitely be in touch, I think my main issues are the processing order rather than the tools!!! and of course honing my skills on the finer details in PI.

It is such a powerful tool and I think the way PI handles images is so fundamentally different that it takes time to get around the new concepts.

Anyway will definitely be back here with questions as I plough my way through it all
