Pipe Nebula Update

Hello folks,

Here's the update to my Pipe Nebula image post. What started out as a single shot for fun remote observing, turned into a 9 segment mosaic project spanning quite a few nights while I worked on other Ha projects.

1 hour L channel each segment. 300s x 12

FSQ
Proline 16803
From Coonabarabran

The full res, 16 bit image is amazing. This reduction hints at the fine detail contained in the original. I'm still working through different types of photo merge processes to produce the best combine.

Very nice! You only need a few more segments and you've got the whole Dark Horse.

Hi Greg, I used Photomerge in CS4 with a few minor adjustments to the seams. Best to orient and level balance each segment equally before the merge. It does a very nice job and with my Core i7 extreme system, it only takes a minute to assemble a dozen 16 bit images.

Greg.

Well yes, I suppose it would be. Grayscale takes me back to my early days of imaging with 103ae film. I've seen some amazing color mosaics of this region. It would be an epic effort to pull it all together and I'm working on a huge Ha project right now and don't have the time. This was supposed to be a fun digital observing time in the late morning hours, but turned into a project of sorts. More to come.

Yes, indeed Rick. I'm adding 40 more segments to cover a larger area assuming I get some extra time. ;-)
