Darned trees. At this time of year the sun dips behind my tree-top line prohibiting any solar imaging until after lunch. Well I decided I wasn't going to put up with that scenerio (existing mount not movable) so I bought an alt/az Ioptron cube (here in IIS TY Strawb AKA Davo ) & have it setup in another location. I was worried about field rotation but looks like I escaped it. It's a monster to get used to because of the weird tracking system but It's going to work for me.
6 pane mosaic.
PST/DMK21.
Edit: Looking at this again, I reckon I've just whipped all my other efforts into shape a tad...You bloody beauty!
Whooooo..........
Your results are ABSOLUTELY excellent!!!
You're really putting the PST through it's paces...
I hate to think what you'd achieve with a modded PST ;-)
Well done!
Nope, go for it Ralph. Here's the Raw image though, if you want (or anyone else) wants a fair dinkum *play*. Stacked in Autostakkert & that's it. The rest is up to you

A quick look - You will either love it or hate it.
Niko, I assume I image the Sun just like anyone else with a PST, but if I had to explain the full procedure to anyone...Suffice to say there should be a couple of online tutorials to be had via google.
Narayan, I use Imerge. A great FREE download.
No Mark, I've not tried it but I've seen plenty of images done with colour cameras & suffice to say it looks to be a waste of precious time to me..One day I'll try it though; Busting myths is one of my specialities
No Paul. Most of my latest images are actually 1.5X Autostakkert drizzles & usually an 20% resize (down) for the web. The only reason I have to have a 6 pane mosaic is because Imerge doesn't like small overlaps. 4 panes certainly covers the whole sun easily enough but I get severe gradient lines throughout the image at the overlapped sections.
After saying that, I think I have my facts wrong here. If I don't name the files correctly, I get lost on what I've posted & in the case of this file set, it says nothing about drizzling as per usual. A restack I think, is in order..
Hi John,
Re Your iOptron mount. I was thinking of getting a similar mount with gps for my Solarmax II 60mm. Does it track the Sun OK and is easy to set up?
Thanks. John W
Hi John. It was a bit of a beast to get my head around, but mainly because this model doesn't store info such as my Long/Lat or times, but the GPS model you're thinking about shouldn't have that problem. Tracking, well it does jump around a tad but only for the first few seconds & then it settles into a routine. Pays to wait a few seconds (10-15) before hitting that 'capture' button.
