M83

It has taken me 2 weeks to finish this image of M83. Between the smoke, cloud, and heavy dew, I have 3.5 Hour's of data. 15 minute exposures with the QHY10, guided with the ONAG through the RC10.

Processed in PI and CS5.

I was going for a deeper exposure, but the smoke from the local burn-off's made it too hard.

I am really happy with it, and the processing. Any tips on anything I could have done different maybe?

Erik

You should be ... and the only tip I'd give is the background is very blue, this is not bad or anything but might be worth a tweak

Great job!

Thanks Mike, yeah I know it's a bit on the blue side. I had two versions going in PS where I removed the blue, but it started to look funny. You know when you stare at two similar images for so long......I'll have another play with it.

Since the cloud rolled in, I decided to do a bit of a repro, removed a bit of noise, and darkened the background a tad.

I have noticed quite a few faint background galaxies. I have seen the two bright ones on the right before, but does anyone know where I can find what the others are?

Erik, nice image with lots of detail brought out - it looks almost 3D.

To identify the galaxies, you could try SIMBAD, but you will find that it lists far more than you bargained on.

Very nice capture and well processed with sharp detail and a clear colour differentiation between the galaxy core, the arms and the HII regions.it does seem to have a slight bluish cast overall.
