My Eta

Hey guys, I have had this image around for a while that I was thinking about posting on here. It is an eta carina shot in hubble colours that I will be submitting for the malins this year. It will be my first entry into a competition and while I am sure it wont be the winner I would love it to get me an invite to come hang out with some other astro imagers. I know that people generally dont post their images on here prior to the night but in this case I eventually decided that I had nothing to lose. Peoples feedback is always welcome.

For those who want to know I did end up getting married on Saturday and had a great time, now I am looking forward to my holiday to Thiland and Cambodia at the end of the week.

Well I'll be first cab of the rank and say I think it is an excellent image Peter, you should be very proud of this, I honestly think it is in with a chance. The only thing probably against you is the fickle and unpredictable opinion/likes/dislikes of a 71 year old analogue imager

I should have said that I will not be offended in any way if David does not like the image. Part of the reason I posted the image here is because I am a scientist and being "peer reviewed" means more to me than the opinion of one man.

I for one love the image, it has been my background for about a month and I still love it, and that is why I decided on posting it to see what everyone else thought.

It's a lovely image Peter. Great colours and intricate detail. There are tons of those tiny "pillars of creation" wormy sticky out things all over. A lot of stuff you don't normally see in RGBs of the nebula.

..and yes, you should be giving your hobby a rest for at least a week. She must be an understanding woman.

If I may make a minor suggestion. There are techniques to remove the magenta halos around the stars from tri-color narrowband images. I think Ken Crawford has a tutorial on it.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I still have some small processing things to do which will include getting rid of the halo's either possibly with RGB stars, and some left over hot pixels to deal with.

I appreciate the criticism though because it is the only way we will all improve!
