EYEPIECE TURRET This is a custom made eyepiece turret that will hold SIX eyepieces, either 2 inch eyepieces or 1.25 inch eyepieces with the appropriate reducer (not supplied) or a mixture of both plus three filters.
Each eyepiece is locked in place by two thumbscrews so your valuable eyepiece doesn’t fall out. The diagonal mirror is 65mm and is made of the highest quality Pyrex, 1/10 Wave with Enhanced Coatings. The turret rotates easily and click stops into place via a spring loaded ball bearing at each eyepiece position, it can be further locked into place by a thumbscrew.
A unique feature of this turret is the three filter slide; other highly priced American made Hex Turrets only have the ability to hold one filter at a time. This turret with its unique sliding filter holder allows the use of up to three 2 inch filters making it easier and more convenient to view the planets or nebulas with different filters simply by sliding the filter into place. The sliding filter holder click stops into position by a spring loaded ball bearing so you know the filter is centered.
This turret easily holds six Pentax XW eyepieces (pictured) which are larger and heavier than most.
If you are a visual observer this turret is ideal for increasing your visual pleasure, all your eyepieces and filters are loaded and ready to use, no more fumbling in the dark to change an eyepiece or filter they are ready to click into place in whatever combination you desire.
WEIGHT, if you are concerned about weight I have found that the Astrozap dew shield on my Meade SCT balances out the extra weight of the turret and eyepieces perfectly.
This turret has been milled from solid aluminum and anodized in blue.
EYEPIECES, FILTERS AND TELESCOPE PICTURED ARE NOT INCLUDED.
PRICE REDUCED TO $750 POSTED.

hi hugh,
wondering does it go into the back of the meade at 1 3/4" or is it 2"..as the back of my meade is 2" then an electronic focuser...also how deep is it wondering with the meade electric focuser it may hit the base of forks..
thanks peter
Hi Peter, In answer to your questions; the nose of the turret is 2 inches, it will either fit into the Meade Zero Image Shift Focuser or any 2 inch focuser like a Moonlight etc. or it will fit directly onto the back of the Meade by a custom made adapter I forgot to photograph or mention in the ad, this eliminates using the electric focuser and shortens the setup. Depth measured from the base of the nosepiece to the back of the turret is 115mm the knobs and handle extend a little further. Regards it hitting the base of the forks, that would depend on which model Meade you have and the eyepieces used, however viewing things at the zenith even with the standard diagonal isn’t comfortable and I usually avoid objects that high up. How far you can point towards the zenith also depends on the length of the eyepieces used.
Regards the electric focuser, I found it better to eliminate it from the setup and connect directly to the back of the SCT. If you focus and lock the mirror in place then focus each eyepiece in turn by positioning them in the Turret and locking them in place you eliminate the need to focus at all as each eyepiece will be in focus as they are rotated into position.
Regards,
Hugh

PICTURES ADDED In reply to some queries about how the turret attaches to the back of the SCT I have added some pictures of the Visual Back Adapter included with the turret. Please note the photo with the Turret Visual Back and the Meade Visual Back together for comparison (Meade back not included) the standard Meade Visual Back has an opening of 41.5mm and the Turret Visual Back has an opening of 51mm. The standard Meade back obviously restricts the light path making the use of 2 inch eyepieces of little benefit. Both the nose of the Turret and the Turret Visual Back are standard 2 inch fittings so you can use the Turret Visual Back for other accessories like a diagonal or camera and the turret will fit any telescope, refractor or SCT with a standard 2 inch fitting.
