Comet Lemmon

Nearly didn't bother to attempt imaging Lemmon tonight, as incessant cloud made getting data very difficult... anyway, I managed to get about 1/2 an hour's worth of this pretty comet.

Set the PME to the same rate as the comet, i.e literally set it to Lemmon rate, for 9 x 2 minute unguided luminance frames, then did RGB.

The median combine still shows a few ghost-stars....but I didn't want to process them out- as the faint tail has some delightful, and quite long, structure.

The link is here

Thanks Guys...but I think it needs a re-shoot to totally remove that annoying pattern noise...the forecast is for clearer weather mid week

Thanks guys... Lemmon had quite an impressive apparent motion. The stellar-like head trailed with just 2 minute subs.... hence I might try a different imaging plan if I can get another crack at it.

Impressive shot Peter,

Nonetheless, if you've set the tracking rate to Lemmon speed, why aren't your stars elongated?

(Just trying to work out how I might take a similar shot if the weather obliges this weekend!)

Thanks

Two exposure runs, one at comet rate, one at sidereal

Layer into Photoshop...albeit imperfect in my case as you can still see hints of the trailed stars in the comet structure.

Ahhhhhh - the truth comes out!

Will have to learn about setting custom tracking rates for my mount in case the weather obliges this weekend!
