Wide Chicken

Being the long weekend I had all my fingers crossed that I would be able to get out and do some imaging. I had prior engagements on Friday and Saturday nights so last night I was determined to get out. Again the full moon was around so I chose to do the chicken in hubble colours. I was set up ready to go a little early for it to rise over my house so I took one 15 minute sub of the vela snr, unfortunately 15 minute subs show signs of flexture. I am convinced that for these hubble images you want to stick to under 20 subs so that diminishing returns doesn't make imaging time next to meaningless. Obviously to get mammoth integration times you need long subs though. For now I will have to live with 10 minute subs, but later in the year I have plans for a different guiding solution. From CCD inspector my hydrogen alpha subs range from 4.1 to 4.5 FWHM, and the lowest being a O3 sub at a staggering 3.66 (im imaging at 1.49 arc seconds per pixel).

I hope you like the image it is a mere 20 minutes of s2 and o3 and 130 minutes of HA.

Nice effort Pete. I think maybe some more integration time though. It looks just a little flat to me and I think a bit more integration will give you some more depth.

Thanks Rob, Colour is so subjective when doing narrowband. I am happy you like it.

I have the same opinion Paul, Colour was so hard to do with so little s2 and o3 images. I had planned an all nighter last night but it got to 2 am and clouds started to roll in. The colour has gradients that I think were mostly due to the fact that I had to stretch the blue and red channels too much. I really want to go long with my narrowband images, 20-30 minute subs but with my current guiding that isn't possible.
