Hi
seeing was a lot better than expected - the 200hPa winds were still at about 50kts, but there was actually a bit of detail getting through!! - the image is not great, but it's OK for low altitude and this was easily the best seeing for a fair while. Really pleased to get another image of this part of the planet - the NEB is quite a chaotic place these days.
I tried a few 3-minute-per-colour AVIs at 30Hz to test the video derotation feature in WINJUPOS but, although the feeds looked OK, the flickery seeing messed up the stacking at the lower framerate and it was a waste of time. I salvaged the attached image using a combination of the best 60Hz R, G and B runs, but they were not from the same sequence. WINJUPOS allowed RGB combination from data runs taken over 10 minutes apart, which is a very handy feature.
The dispersion corrector tidied up the blue channel - am coming to the conclusion that, although it is a PITA to align on a Newtonian and it changes the imaging scale with typical Barlows, it is worth having at ~34 degrees altitude, even when the seeing is only fair.
Thanks for looking. Ray
300mm Newtonian on EQ6, TV 3x Barlow, ADC, Astronomik filters, DMK21-618, AS!2 stacking, Registax6 sharpening, WINJUPOS RGB combination, GIMP tidy up.

Reason: better image colour
I have not tried WinJUPOS derotation of long video, but like you have found it good for combining RGB channels taken several minutes apart.

P.S. I was imaging that night too, but there was no detail to be seen from this side of the gulf. Results looked pretty much like your image, only with a 5 pixel gaussian blur!
Nice going Ray. Detail will be hard to come by this apparition for SA. going a lot further north will produce better results. I may have a try from Clayton over the break.
Thank you Ray for this Jupiter very very nice with colours and details optimized at the right level
Giuseppe
thanks Giuseppe. I find it very hard to use restraint when there is very little detail to work with - it always seems that a little more processing will bring out a tiny bit more detail, but it just messes up the image in the end - your feedback is appreciated.

yes, have had a few those lately, which was why this seeing was surprising. thanks Ivan

thanks Paul. Don't have the option of going north, so will just have to grab whatever comes along. I would have though that Clayton should be good if we can just get this high speed upper level wind to go somewhere else. Good luck.

Thanks Matt. it is nice to get a halfway reasonable image again - looking through low altitude murk limits the possibilities somewhat. But it provides enough spare time to have a serious bash at understanding the fundamentals of the imaging process, so its not all bad.
