Put it all together yesterday. Ended up getting a 128 GB SSD and the 1 TB HDD. It certainly does boot fast. Also decided to stick with the ASRock Extreme 6 and got 16GB of Corsair DDR3 1600 memory. The board seems to be working fine at the moment.

He can use it with the onboard graphics for now while he saves for the GPU. Also have it running at normal clock speeds but will look at an aftermarket cooler and OC down the track.

Looks like it will cost a fortune to run. 500 W continuous for 24 hrs is 12 KW hrs. That is what my total household daily average is at the moment.

Lucky he has to go to school! It boots up in a few seconds so no need to leave it running.

500W continuous would be the power supplies rating.
Consumption would be less.

That was last years P/S. The P/S are now rated at 750 watt to handle all the new gear. If you are a gamer and spend hours running at full speed you will start to chew up power, Listen to the fan speed.

Good choice Peter!
SSD loads of Ram and it looks like your son save up for the GPU in a few days ehehhehe.
Did you go for a stock standard DVD or did you go BluRay?

couldn't resist...the difference in the graphics quality and resolution is amazing. Loaded Crysis 2 on the weekend (took 5 hours to download/install) but worth it in the end.

Decided to go DVD.
