Galaxy NGC 7125

Hi all,

This image looks quite old school compared to the stuff being cranked out these days by others, but it's what I have. Probably should have done some colour filter frames.

Taken with my relatively new ST8XME (earlier this year) it's one of the few photo's I've taken with the camera that is vaguely "pretty picture" orientated. It's almost only worked on supernovas, occultations and a few other things.

My system didn't used to be at f/10 but the larger size of the ST8 (compared to my ST7) has forced me down that route. It also is arguable that f/10 binned 2x2 suits my small galaxy photography better anyhow. The field is relatively flat and undistorted.

20 x 180 seconds
Bin 2x2 with the ST8XME
12" meade SCT @ f/10 (approx 3000mm)
No guiding (OTA is on PME)
1.26 arc sec/pixel

Being 1.26 arc sec/pixel (binned 2x2) means the long focal length doesn't add much complexity, only means a larger galaxy I shouldn't have whimped out and instead done it 1x1, then that'd be an achievement to get a similarly sharp image at 0.63 arc sec/pixel, quite an achievement that would be

That's a nice galaxy, you must come across quite a few 'pretty picture' candidates when doing supernovae I would imagine.
Now waiting for the 1x1 version, you know you want to...
