Canon 400D with 50mm lens & Timer

Astrophotography Starter package (Canon 400D for sale with astro lens)
Basic setup for you to do wide field Astrophotography with an DSLR
For Sale - whole package $499 plus postage
Canon 400D DSLR with a canon 50mm (f/1.8) len with remote timer
1. Canon 400D EOS DSLR
Very good condition. LCD is free of scratches. Less than 10,000 shots (lifetime 100,000) - see attached picture
· Genuine Canon battery + extra generic battery (both still hold very good charge)
· SanDisk 4GB Compact flash
· Original Box & manual
· Installation CD
· Cover for lens attachment slot

2. Genuine Canon EF 50mm lens (f/1.8)
· With 2 x Len Caps
· less than 12 months old
· RRP $149

3. Phottix TR-90 Remote switch (with timer) - for exposures greater than 30 seconds
· Instruction manual & box
· batteries not included! (I recommend energizer batteries for good performance)
· RRP over $70 (Check specs http://www.phottix.com/en/phottixr-tr-90.html)

4. Bahtinov Focusing mask - custom made for the canon 50mm

The whole package can be used on a tripod or attached to a telescope to track the sky (best results with latter). You can also attach the camera directly to your telescope with an adapter (optional extra!)
Simply focus the camera on a bright star (like Sirius) by using the manual focus and then attach to tripod or mount on telescope. You can try out the included focusing mask too
Set the camera to "manual" and program the remote switch and you're off and going!
Please see the examples I've taken with this exact setup attached to the top of my telescope tracking the stars (from a dark sky)
1. Orion with M42
2. Orion Enlargement (you can just see the Horsehead nebula!)
3. Eta Carina region
4. Large Magellan Clouds

These unprocessed shots can be improved by extra stacking, processing & cropping. They look much better when seen on a full PC screen
Bonus free daytime camera included! (lol) A very good camera which exceeds any automatic camera I've used. Has automatic modes like portrait & sports or fully creative modes.
Please note that fast lenses are generally not as sharp at their widest aperture (ie F/1.8) and have to be "stopped down" for maximum sharpness. Or you just need to crop the outer edges of the shots to remove out of focus stars (example given are full frame -just so you get the full picture (so to speak)).
Please let me know if you have any questions

Domenic,
I too have a Canon D400 and I'm trying my first attempts at astrophotography. Not much success so far, and I think that I have a problem of not being able to get a tight focus. I note that you use a Bahtinov mask - can you tell me where you got it from?
Would you consider splitting the camera off and selling the mask and perhaps the intervalometer separately?

Regards,
Dan Duffy

Hi Dan
The Bahtinov is custom made. There was a chap i found on IIS that makes them. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ov+classifieds
I wouldn't say that the mask is the solution to all your problems. The best success i had was focusing on a very bright star like Sirus or Antares, taking test shots, zooming and then refocusing a smig .... trial & error etc etc

i've already had many request to split up, but i'll contact those guys in order first, before readvertising
