Eureka prize Sol?

In a little over a week from now, I get to find out whether this image
will get bronze, silver or gold at the Australian Museum Eureka prizes !!!

The competition is: Humpback's (well...literally...humping...as they do) and another fish...
(OK... whales aren't fish)

Whatever the result on the night, is does beg the question: if fish travel in schools, would not the correct term be, a University of Whales?

Good luck - I thought whales were the cows of the sea! Bovine University perhaps? (Simpsons).

Yes, good luck Peter. Having experienced both, I can deffinitely say the Eureka Prize night makes the David Malin Awards night seem like an office morning tea.... and with much better prizes! Your stiffest competiton looks to be from the humping whales, if that is truly the first time it has ever been recorded though ....then it probably deserves to win

Mike

Thanks. Yep, definitely a major event....got fitted for a Tux last week. Not quite sure what "science" the whale image imparts...other than whales doing what most mammals do...albeit underwater. You'd be worried if they checked into a Hilton. ... Regardless of the result, I'm rather looking forward to the night.

Guess I'm in with a chance...the link above is 50% res. Full res is pretty snappy though.

Thanks Mike, and yes, your prognosis was correct. The fish photos did very well.

I was really chuffed just to be there and there is certainly nothing wrong with a Bronze (and not insignificant prize cheque) given the stratospheric level of the awards.

It was a simply an amazing evening, meeting and chatting with the finest Science minds in the country was inspiring and quite humbling.

Congratulations Peter, it is always great to see the work of Australian amateurs recognized by the broader scientific community and the Eureka Awards for Science are certainly right up there.

Regards
Trevor

Actually, my positon on climate change is, and always has been, humanity is buggering up the planet's atmosphere.

But as for the carbon (dioxide) tax ...well... don't get me started....
