Canon 300D "Modified for Astrophotography" **SOLD**

Hi All,
I have a modified Canon 300D for sale...

Modification consists of...
- Removal of standard UV/IR filter that turns astrophotos blue!
- Replaced with clear glass so that auto-focus still works!

Modification has been done professionally by myself. An electronic design engineer with 15years experience in miniature elctronics.

Comes with...
- Canon 300D camera body. In used condifiton but perfectly functional.
- Standard 18-55mm Canon EFS Lens
- Battery & Charger
- 32MB memory card. Not much, but enough to get going with.

Price is A$1150 + actual shipping from NZ.

I had no idea how to price this so based it on the following...
1. To buy a 2nd hand 300D ~US$550 for a good deal.
2. To get Hutech to do this exact mod ~US$600.
Equals US$1150... So I'm not mucking around.. It's yours for A$1150. Easy!

Post any questions, & PM me if interested! Paypal best. Happy to post photos of the camera if asked.
See http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ead.php?t=7308 for a few images taken with this camera post mod.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers

Hmmm tempting
But actually these mod's make the 300D's even more sensitive to Ha (& IR) than the 20Da! So no I'm not heading towards a 20Da. I actually ended up with 2 300D's. I modified them both. Both worked perfectly, but I only need one.
Cheers

Here's a few pics.
There are a few scratches on the bottom near the tripod screw, but they are only cosmetic.

BTW these pics were taken with the other modified 300D using a custom white balance.

Nice one Houghy! After seeing the red halos around the Pentax *ist pics today, I agree you need a new camera!

Now let me preempt Striker and offer you $1500, but only if it is really sold. Take that Tony!

Oh and another one Robby, will I need a CC1 filter? have you got one, do they work? What is the battery life like photographing? is there a way to supply the voltage to the camera from an external battery or power source?

An Aussie asking too many questions??

Does it have the "hack" firmware installed h0ughy? The 300D doesn't come with the mirror lockup as standard. Not sure if you know this.

My battery life is pretty good for quite a few hours/shots. Get a second battery for backup. You can get external power adapters, not sure where though. Another battery means less cable hanging off the end of your scope throwing the balance out and getting caught up though.

Houghy,
The camera is loaded with the unDutchables firmware which add mirror lock-up ISO3200 (H) & other stuff.
Details of this firmware - http://www.star-mate.com/temp/undutchables_023.pdf
300D manual & other support stuff - http://www.canon.com.au/products/cam...d_support.aspx
You can use a CC1 filter for daytime colour correction, but mostly the custom white balance will work fine. I have already set a custom white balance in that camera, but you can probably de better.
CC1 filter can be got from here - http://www.maxmax.com/aXRay58mmFilters.asp I haven't tried one.
Colour Correction details - http://ghonis2.ho8.com/rebelmod8.html

Hope this helps!.. A smart Australian like yourself should be able to work it out pretty quick
