Saturday Night New Moon Allnighter

Hi all,

Saturday night was an absolutely gorgeous clear night in Adelaide. We got home from a social engagement around 10:30pm, so I was out there and ready to go by 11pm. Seeing we had a relatively free day on Sunday, I ended up pulling an all-nighter. Have not managed that for ages.

The conditions were absolutely still. I noticed that dew was forming everywhere (except on the scope lens... ha ha). When I checked the BOM site, they were indicating humidity around the high 90's.

Wrapped up around 5:30 in the morning.......... a very relaxing night!

Very happy the way the mount is now performing. Did a complete strip-down and rebuild/regrease last month, and it is running like a dream.

Managed to capture 5 items in total. The imaging stats were the same for all 5 objects :

Imaging scope : Skywatcher ED120 with WOIII 0.8x reducer/flattener ==> f6 (720mm focal length)
Guide scope : ED80 and DMK21
Mount : EQ6 Pro
Imaging : QHY8L
Capture : 6 x 10 minutes lights (plus darks, flats and bias).

The images are as follows:
1. Lobster Nebula
2. M17
3. M27
4. NGC253
5. Tarantula

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Daniel

Nice going Danny. I had to get up early the following morning and cut wood for the whole day with my Dad. Otherwise you would have received an invite. Nice to see home is producing good results.

Great shots Dan. I'm a 253 fan (being my first observed GX). Would love to get an all nighter in Melb, but they are pretty rare.

Clear skies

Thanks Paul. We got home a bit earlier than expected, and I figured since it was a clear night, might as well give it a good go. Fairly happy with the results being metro Adelaide. Of course your skies at Clayton are just super!

Thanks for that Martin. With the position of the 'observatory' at home, I get fairly limited opportunity for the lower Northern objects. Would be nice to add more subs over the coming weeks.

Great images Daniel., and nicely processed. What a productive evening and really good results from suburbia. You did well to find a chance with with weather we've been having.

Thanks Graeme. I really did "fluke" a good night, and especially it being a Saturday night. Just could not bring myself to going to bed and missing out on the opportunity.

Cheers,

Daniel
