Does anyone have any opinions about a good medium power eyepiece (say between 8 and 16mm) for an ubiquious 80mm f5 short tube. My budget is below $150.
What about something like a 15mm Orion Expanse? How would they perform in a short tube? For a narrower FOV I am also looking at a 11 0r 15mm Televue Plossl.

I have the Orion expanse 9mm they are fine
TMB are also ok
The next will be a 5mm or 13mm Baader Hyperion
The GSO ep's are good value I have the 2in 30mm
It's also worth keeping your eyes on ice trade a lot of good eps turn up there
The Explore Scientific 82 degree eyepieces are US$100; I imagine they're cheaper to buy in China.
The problem with buying stuff in China is that the top quality kit gets exported and the lower grade stuff is left for the domestic market (the real garbage is sent to Africa). I will return to Australia soon for a holiday and while I am there pick up my short tube and purchase an extra eyepiece.
Another suggestion within your price point are the Meade HD-60's. I have the 9mm and the 12mm and they are both very nice eyepieces for the money. I only upgraded to the ES 82 8.8 and 11 because I was after a wider field of view, but other than that the HD-60's are pretty close! I really like the twist up eye-cup, so much so that I decided to keep them both for use with my PST where they really excel at keeping out stray light from the side. Pretty good value in my opinion!
To true , a friend just got one of these for his little ETX70mm and I am impressed with the quality , great views , very well made for next to nothing , impressive .
He payed $29 for his , dont know how the make them so good for that ??

The 20mm is my 'sweeper', has about the same FOV as the 2" 32mm Kellner. Also does well on Nebs and globs. The 15mm gets me in just the bit closer without losing brightness. Cost about $49 each over here and they were the first 'upgrades' I got when I got the blue 4.5" newt. I just wish my Barlow was of the same quality, it's next to useless. I use it as an extender (unscrew the lens) more than a Barlow.

I have a GSO 20mm, not a bad eyepiece but for a fast 'scope it does struggle with the edge of field definition. I used to use mine with an OIII filter when I used my 300mm Dob and 120mm refractor and my 27mm Panoptic was used as a general low power eyepiece (filterless). Alas, I have sold all my Televue eyepieces and can only take so much with me back to China.
