NGC 6888 in Cygnus

Hi folks
this was actually an experiment; one that can only really be done (I think) under great seeing. I wanted to see how the 5nm Ha and 3nm OIII filters would perform in the U16M and CDK under full moon conditions.

So, most of the integrations that make up this image are 1 hour in duration (as I said, you need really good seeing to do this) taken under full or near full moon. Obviously, target selection is important here as the same results would not be achieved if the target was in close proximity to a full moon.

Total exposure time is 16 hours (8.5 Ha and 7.5 OIII)
http://www.martinpughastrophotograph...s/Crescent.jpg

What impresses me the most was that raw FWHM on the 1 hour integrations averaged 1.8 asp.

thanks for looking
Martin

Amazing stuff Martin.

I have never seen that image before. Awesome.

Looks like a brain wrapped in some kind of jelly.

I will bet money this is another APOD.

Hi Martin. What strikes me most about this image is the sharp detail and the three dimensional feel. The narrow band data really makes that happen, but combined with great processing the image is dynamic.

The colour could be more saturated in my opinion though. Dealers choice though.

Well done.

An amazing photo Martin.

The sharpness and clarity give it a 3D look.

I have seen this on a couple of up-north forums but nothing quite like this image. Agree with Paul, the detail is incredible.

Roll-on moonlit nights, roll-out the NB filters.Still cant find the cloud filter though..

That's an amazing image Martin - very 3D and the contrast in texture between the pink and blue is spectacular. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic O3, I use the Astrodon 3nm and it is suprisingly noise free.
