Sharing Venus Transit viewing.

Well, yesterday was a special day, that I did not think was going to happen due to the weather, but at the last minute the clouds cleared away-while that was happening I quickly got cutting up the solar filter paper and making covers for scopes-my son laughed and said he imaged Captain Cook would have been a bit more organised!

Within 30 minutes all scopes and gear was aligned and program, all with 10 minutes to spare! The clouds all cleared away and cameras started rolling,my son had his cam corder strapped to the back of one scope and gathered some data for a time lapse.

It was really wonderful viewing Venus through a 13 mm type VI naglar through a proper Japanese scope-so crisp and sharp.

Soon the phone started ringing and visitors came all through the day, holding up their apps phones and taking images-some looked quite good too.Everyone really enjoyed the rare event, they day was perfect.

Here are couple of images.cheers Chris

Nice work Chris, it looks like you had quite a nice Venus Transit party at your observatory! Good to see the Vixen stuff.

Cheers

Thanks Dennis and Matt.

Yes,it was so good the weather worked out well for S.E QLD members,it was great to share the gear and show members of the public-and keep the day an enjoyable event, without getting too serious.

I found the interest in yesterday's transit, much stronger than 2004,great to see general public so interested in an astronomical event.

We were able to see the whole transit from beginning to end,I managed to get images all through the event,I think I liked when Venus was just inside the sun disc the best.

Thanks too Dennis for the instructions on solar viewing and getting gear ready
